Nueva Alma Format for all Classes:

All teachers are encouraged to teach their own unique style.  However there is some consistency with the format. As asana practice is typically practiced as a way of to get the body moving ultimately, Yoga is the science of uniting the mind, body and spirit with breath.  Moving asana was a way of getting all the “stuff” out so that you could sit in meditation allowing the student to quiet the mind. Most classes are generally 75 minutes long with approximately 60 minutes of moving asana, followed by 6-8 minutes of long savasana, ending in a 5 minute meditation.  This format will ensure all students are truly given a well rounded education on the science and various aspects of Yoga.

Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is a class held basically seated using gravity to open and help intensify the stretch. Similar to restorative in that the poses are held for an extended period of time but for a fundamentally different purpose. Yin poses are not for the goal of relaxation.Yin poses are held to stretch the connective tissue (tendons and ligaments) around the joints (mainly the hips, pelvis, and lower back region). A yin practice is still, static and calming, therefore, a wonderful compliment to your average yang type (lots of movement using your muscles) practice.
